It’s not snake oil, it’s fish oil!

Have you heard about the amazing health and skin benefits that you can get from fish oil? If you haven’t seen an ad for fish oil recently, then you certainly will soon, as the scientific, health and beauty industries get more and more excited about the potential health benefits of this amazing little compound!

The big news is actually around what is in the fish oil- specifically the Omega 3 long chain fatty acids DHA and EPA. It has been found that while you will get some benefits from the type of Omega 3 that is in Flaxseed and Evening Primrose oils, the real benefits come from the fish oil source (but don’t let me make you think Flaxseed and Evening Primrose oils aren’t worth taking- they have heaps of other health benefits- but they’re just not what I’m talking about in this post).

Why should you take Fish Oil?

Here are a few reasons:

Improved skin elasticity and increased Essential Fatty Acid levels meaning your skin looks and acts younger
Reduces inflammation- and when you realise that almost ANY sort of disease or injury is usually accompanied by some sort of swelling, you start to realise how powerful it can be in reducing the severity of a lot of symptoms
Can help with circulation issues ie varicose veins, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure etc etc
reduces severity of things like asthma, excema, arthritis
Reduces levels of bad cholesterol
Improves infants immune function
Can reduce ADHD symptoms
Helps with a baby’s developing brain and nerve function even in the womb if the mother takes supplements or eats a diet high in fish during pregnancy
Shows promise in slowing Alzheimer’s disease symptoms
May even help in increasing energy and aiding weight loss efforts

… and the list goes on and on! Now I would like to point out that some of these effects are very strongly proven, and some just have a few clinical trials to support them, but all have at least strong scientific evidence to back them up.If you want to see a very comprehensive write up of the ups and downs of Omega 3, just go to wikipedia and search on omega-3 fatty acid- it is quite a complex but INCREDIBLY comprehensive article!

There are a few people who shouldn’t take fish oil- those who are allergic to fish would be the biggest group obviously. There are some other conditions (ie congenitive heart failure, diabetes etc) that may be at increased risk of complications if the person with the problem were to take them, so as always, I would recommend that if you have any concerns about whether taking fish oil is right for you that you talk to your doctor before taking any supplement. But having said all that, most of the healthy population would see only benefits from taking a Fish Oil supplement!

Have you heard about threading? It’s one of the oldest methods of hair removal in the world, and is (in my opinion) usually the best method of facial hair removal there is! The reason? It combines the best of threading and waxing, and eliminates the bad. It is like tweezing in that it is very accurate and most importantly VERY gentle on the skin that the hair is being removed from (after all, who wants droopy eyelids before they absolutely have to have them?), but it is as quick and as thorough as waxing- and depending who your therapist is, it is usually quicker! So if you want to see what it is like for eyebrow tidying, upper lip or chin hair removal or even full face hair removal, just make an appointment and let us know you want to be threaded!

How often do you hear of prices falling permanently? Well, that’s just what we’ve done! We’ve dropped our spray tan price to $39 for a full body and $28 for a half body- saving around $10 in each case. We’ve been able to do this because we can have the tan area set up permanently rather than having to do it before each booking, so whatever saves us time, saves you money- but don’t worry, we still use the same 97% natural (and organic where possible!) tan liquid, and still take huge amounts of care with the application so you don’t get a patchy uneven finish- just a beautiful sun kissed glow- why not make it a regular treatment over summer?

New treatments for skin that is ageing or prone to breakouts!

We’ve been busy lately, not just with the move, but also adding new treatments! We’ve started doing peels recently, and they are getting AMAZING results! I had one a while ago (and am hanging out for another one soon!), and the difference in my skin after a week was dramatic! There are two to choose from-the one I had was the ‘Ageless Peel’, and as the name implies, it is for skin that has a few lines and wrinkles, and is generally showing a few signs of age. The next day there wasn’t much to be seen, but after a week I started noticing a definite reduction in the lines around my eyes, and after another week I saw a clarity and firmness to my skin that I hadn’t seen for a LONG time- I’m hooked! The other peel is more of a corrective peel- for pimples, scarring and the like- we’ve seen some great results from this one too- hugely reduced numbers of pimples, smoother fresher skin, and a big reduction in the amount of scarring from previous pimples- simply awesome. So if you are interested, give us a call to discuss you best options- they cost no more than our regular facials, and could be just what you need!

As we are expanding, we are bringing on new team members to pamper you. After having to wait an entire month for her old boss to let her go, Jade Morgan has finally joined our team! She has been working in the industry for 2 years fulltime, some of it in Whangarei, but the last 15 months has been down in Auckland at a waxing clinic where she has learnt amazing speed and accuracy with ALL hair removal methods- including threading! We are really excited to welcome Jade to the team, and just know you’ll love her too!
